Location: The islands have traditionally been classified according to their geographical relationship to the trade winds that reach the islands from the continent. The “Windward” islands include São Antão, São Vincente, Santa Luzia (uninhabited), São Nicolau, Sal and Boa Vista. The more southerly “Leeward” islands include Maio, Santiago, Fogo and Brava. The sun shines all the year round and the air is freshened by cool sea breezes. Cape Verde has a dry, tropical climate – the average temperature is 28°C and the range of temperature fluctuations does not exceed 10°C. Cape Verde has a surface area of 4,033 km2 and is one of the five so-called Macronesia Atlantic Archipelagos that also include the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands and the Selvagens. Cape Verde’s highlights include its long beaches, a sea perfect for all types of water sports, as well as its breathtaking mountains, its top quality fish and seafood and its unique and very beautiful music. From a socio-political perspective, the islands are stable and free from conflict.
